John Winthrop
Born: January 12, 1587
Died: March 26, 1649 (aged 62)
Bio: John Winthrop led a group of Puritans to the New World and joined the Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1629. He was elected governor of his colony on April 8, 1630. Winthrop was extremely religious and a fervent subscriber to the Puritan belief that the Anglican Church had to be cleansed of Catholic ritual.
