From too much love of living,
From hope and fear set free,
We thank with brief thanksgiving
Whatever gods may be

Bio: Pinkie Gordon Lane was an African-American poet, editor, and teacher. She authored five books of poetry and was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize in 1979.
